Phoenix is a very active and friendly tennis club with teams in both the Colchester and District Tennis League and the Friendly League. We play throughout the year on the eight hard courts owned by the Colchester Institute in Spring Lane, Colchester. We cater for members of all ages: our youngest is 11 years old and our eldest 82 (and still plays a mean game).

We are now welcoming new members for the 2012 tennis season which starts on Saturday April 7th

  • Annual membership is only £65.00
  • Includes 3 club sessions per week plus inter-club tennis matches for team players
  • Reduced membership rates for students, young people and unwaged
  • For more information and membership application form please contact David Moran:

Tennis for all

You don't have to be a budding Murray or Sharapova to be a member of Phoenix (though you would be very welcome!) as we have members of all abilities. The Friendly League is intended specifically for older or less experienced players, or for those who simply wish to enjoy less intensive competitive tennis.

We have a variety of club competitions. There are also as many American Tournaments as we can fit into the season.

When we meet

The club meets on every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6pm and on Saturday afternoons from 2pm in the summer season (1st April to 30th September). During the winter months, we meet on Sunday mornings from 10am; there is also a club session on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm for the non-workers.

Membership Information

If you would like to join Phoenix then please contact David Morran or 'phone 01206 864144. You will be asked to come and play three times in order that the committee can assess whether your standard of play is good enough (you have to be able to play a reasonable club doubles game).
